Mother's Day Portraits
This past Mother's Day, I surprised my mom by flying out to visit her for the weekend. She lives in Courtenay, BC, on Vancouver Island where my nana, uncle & aunt live as well. I enlisted my nana's stealth and wit in secretly flying out to give my mother a present to remember. Mother's Day has always been special because my mom's birthday is on May 10th and is often the same day or weekend as the holiday. I always try to make both events as exciting as possible for her, usually mailing presents and cards to let her know each day is special in their own way, even if they fall on the same square on the calendar. I hid in the kitchen when my mom came over to my nana's for her 'present' and when she saw me, we all burst into screams and tears. 3 women of 3 different generations crying and hugging; the best way to spend a Mother's Day. I wanted to photograph my mom and nana that weekend where we were all in one place at one time, celebrating the fact that we were born.
